In the midst of a maple grove a faerie's breath gently dries the wings of a butterfly newly emerged from it's chrysalis.

My intention in this piece is to work on leaves. I do alot of flowers, but I struggle depicting leaves close-up.

um these leaves...what kind of leaves are they...

:-) Alisa Simonoff replies: "I think I know what you are thinking...and they are not. They are maple leaves. I had the same sort of questions when I was working on this at my lunch break from my co-workers. That is why in the painted version the leaves will be autumn red. "

These leaves don’t look much like cannabis, if that is what people were thinking:

Still, I expect there are variations in maple leaf shape, just as not all humans have identical fingers. The leaves are beautifully done, incidentally...

The leaves are roughly based on a Japanese maple, which has heavily lobed leaves...although they do vary alot. I did take artistic license with the relative size of the leaves though."
